Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd., a Mini Ratna Category-I PSE under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, has announced important leadership changes at the Board level.
Mr. Prabal Basu has taken over as Chairman & Managing Director (C&MD) of Balmer Lawrie & Co. Ltd. with effect from 01 August, 2015. He succeeds Mr. Viren Sinha. Prior to his appointment as C&MD, Mr. Basu was Director [Finance], overseeing the Finance and IT functions of the Manufacturing and Service Businesses of the Company. He is one of the youngest C&MDs in the history of Balmer Lawrie.
A qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA), a qualified Company Secretary (ACS) and a qualified Cost & Management Accountant (ACMA), Mr. Basu joined Balmer Lawrie in April 1988 and has around 29 years of experience in Accounts & Finance, Information Technology, ERP Implementation and General Management, of which 2 years were outside Balmer Lawrie. During his tenure at Balmer Lawrie, he has played a significant role in charting out long term growth drivers for the businesses and has successfully contributed to the strategic investment decisions leading to the Company’s profit and growth.
Mr. Kalyan Swaminathan has taken over as Director (Service Business) of Balmer Lawrie with effect from 01 August, 2015 and will oversee the Travel & Vacations and Logistics businesses of the Company. Prior to his elevation to the Board, Mr. Swaminathan was leading the Logistics Infrastructure business of the Company as Chief Operating Officer. A qualified Cost & Management Accountant (ACMA) and a qualified Company Secretary (ACS), Mr. Swaminathan has a working experience of 32 years, during which he has successfully contributed to the areas of Accounts & Finance, ERP Implementation, Logistics and General Management. Prior to joining Balmer Lawrie in the year 1987, he worked with EID Parry (India) Ltd. He left Balmer Lawrie for a brief period to work with an IT start up in Bangalore as VP (Finance) and re-joined the Company in November 2009. A keen analyst, an enterprising leader and a seasoned professional, Mr. Swaminathan has rich experience in business operations and change management, besides financial and cost accounting.
